Understand and improve air quality in your city
Breathe London is an air quality sensing network, built by Londoners for Londoners. Delivered in partnership with the Mayor of London, the programme is aimed at improving air quality across the city. By purchasing a sensor, you’ll become part of a London-wide effort to monitor, understand, and ultimately improve the air we breathe.
Our sensors are priced at £2,095 for the installation year (£2,495 including a solar panel), and £995 per year for subsequent years, excluding VAT. To enquire about purchasing a sensor, contact the team by emailing helpdesk@breathelondon.org, or arrange a call with our partners at Airly to discuss options.
Benefits of joining Breathe London
Joining the Breathe London network offers numerous benefits for individuals, communities and organisations alike:
Access to real-time data
Gain access to a comprehensive dataset of real-time air quality information from across London. This data can be used for research, public information, operational planning, and to help your community understand air pollution. Our Breathe London sensors measure Nitrogen Dioxide NO2 and Particulate Matter PM2.5, continuously providing 1-minute readings which are averaged to produce 1-hour data points, all day every day. This data is available on our website on an interactive map of the city, and you’ll also have access to an individual page specifically for your sensor where you can view and download your data.
Contribute to a healthier London
Your participation directly contributes to a healthier environment for all Londoners. By expanding the network's reach, we can better identify pollution hotspots and inform targeted interventions. Our offer includes provision of an air quality sensor, installation and maintenance. We will even decommission any existing sensors you may have and deliver them to you for recycling. We aim to have your sensor up and running within a week or two of you placing your order, and data flowing a couple of weeks after that.
Community engagement
Connect with a network of like-minded individuals and organisations from all corners of the city, dedicated to improving the air we breathe. Share insights, collaborate on projects, and amplify your impact. Global Action Plan, our engagement partner, will reach out to you and ensure you gain the maximum level of understanding and engagement from your sensor and the wider network.
Inform policy and action
The data collected by the network is crucial for informing policy decisions and driving effective actions to reduce air pollution. Your contribution helps shape the future of London's air.
Visibility and recognition
As a participant, your commitment to air quality improvement will be recognised on the Breathe London platform, showcasing your dedication to corporate social responsibility or community welfare.

By joining, you’ll get:
Airly Sensor (with or without solar panel)
Airly's sensors measure: fine particulate matter (PM2.5), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), temperature, humidity and pressure every minute.
Sensor standards information
Airly’s particulate matter (PM) sensor is compliant with MCERTS Performance Standards for Indicate Ambient Particulate Monitors (MCERTS certificate attached as Annex 3), and NO2 accuracy complies with Class 1 Indicative Classification under CEN Technical Specification (TS 17660-1).

Installation service by SRL
Our partners at SRL will arrange the installation of your sensor, and take care of everything needed to get your sensor live and active.

Your sensor data on a map of London
Access to hourly air quality data that has been calibrated and quality assured by professionals from Cambridge Environmental Research Consultants. This will appear on our website on an interactive map of the city.

Support to take air quality action
You’ll receive our monthly Breathe London newsletter, access to our resource hub, and leading engagement package by Global Action Plan, the charity behind Clean Air Day and Clean Air Night, including invitations to webinars and events to help you understand your sensor data and improve air quality in your community. You'll also get access to support from our Breathe London helpdesk.

You’ve placed your order - what happens next?
- Confirmation - Once your order is placed, you will receive a confirmation email with a summary of your purchase and next steps.
- Contact from Airly and SRL - A member of our team will get in touch with you to discuss details and installation methods based on your location and needs. SRL will reach out to arrange the installation date. If required, we will ensure any necessary permissions or access logistics are handled in advance.
- Delivery and installation - Depending on the installation method selected, the sensor will either be sent directly to you, or an engineer from our trusted partners SRL will visit for on-site delivery during installation. The installation will take place at a date and time convenient for you.
- Go live & monitoring - Once installed, your sensor will connect automatically. Data will begin flowing to begin the calibration and quality assurance process within 1-2 hours, and within a couple of weeks you will be able to access your data through our website.
- Getting involved – Finally, our partners at Global Action Plan will check in to assess what support you need to make the most out of your sensor data, and share details of our engagement package of newsletters, webinars, resources and more.
I’m switching from a previous sensor – what do I do?
If you’re replacing an existing sensor at the same location, we will coordinate the removal of the current unit as we install the new sensor. All other steps remain the same!
When will I get access to my data?
Once your sensor has been installed, a calibration and quality assurance process will be applied to the data to ensure it meets the highest standards. This can take anywhere up to 3 weeks, from which point all of your sensor data from soon after installation will appear on the website. Our team works hard to get sensors up and running as soon as possible, without compromising on data quality.
