Brixton Central

About us

Brixton is an area of social deprivation, with the busy A23 road running through it. We are serving the local Brixton area with up-to-date data from our Breathe London node positioned right at the heart of Brixton, opposite Windrush Square.  We are supplying data and analysis through our weekly blog: airaware.substack.com and hope to give residents, including the most vulnerable such as children, the information and means to live healthier lives.

Louise Thomas (project lead) has had children in the local area for almost 12 years and lived around Brixton since 1999. She recently took a break for a career as a civil servant to join a venture builder focused on eliminating environmental threats to our health, and holds a BA in Mathematical Science and a Masters in Public Administration.

Sacha Manson-Smith (technical lead) is the Chief Technology Officer of Beryl, a micromobility company that helps people get around cities in a sustainable way. He is committed to improving the quality of air in the urban environment, and recently presented at Cycle City 2022 in Sheffield on how the use of data can help build sustainable travel solutions. He has lived in Brixton for five years and served as a school governor of Harris Academy Bermondsey and Harris Academy Peckham. He holds a PhD in Physics.

We are delighted to be part of the Breathe London initiative. We are passionate about improving air quality for our local community, particularly the most vulnerable. We are excited to expand Lambeth’s air quality monitoring network by placing a node right in the centre of Brixton next to the A23 and opposite Windrush Square. We hope this will contribute to the Lambeth Air Quality Action Plan, supporting their push for cleaner air for residents.
