The technology company Air Monitors designed and installed the network of AQMesh air quality monitoring pods, as well as the air quality analysers that were specially adapted to operate inside the Google Street View cars. Air Monitors will also be responsible for the ongoing service and maintenance of all of the project’s air quality monitoring equipment.
University of Cambridge
Cambridge University are providing input to aspects of Breathe London air quality measurements, including the synthesis and interpretation of measurements from the static and mobile network platforms.
CERC will analyze the measurements from the sensors and cars and integrate the data with modelling to improve knowledge of London’s air quality and the sources of pollution, providing insights to tailor solutions to improve London’s air quality. A brand new interactive air quality map for Londoners is being built by CERC for Breathe London, so that people can easily understand the air quality information being collected.
Environmental Defense Fund
Co-ordinating Breathe London and providing policy expertise, the EDF Europe team work closely with expert science, data and communications experts in the US-based EDF team.
Mayor of London
The Mayor of London has delivered a series of bold measures to tackle London’s filthy air, from cleaning up the bus fleet to introducing a Toxicity Charge in central London for the oldest polluting vehicles. The ULEZ, starting in central London next April, will be the toughest emission standard adopted by any city in the world and will improve air quality for millions of Londoners.
Google Earth Outreach
Google is providing two Google Street View cars equipped with air quality sensing equipment, and supporting three drivers as part of Breathe London. Google is also contributing cloud storage and computing technology, as well as visualization and mapping.
National Physical Laboratory
The National Physical Laboratory will carry out calibrations for the high-accuracy instruments inside the Google cars to confirm the accuracy of the measurements collected. They will also provide the base for the cars, and run colocation studies to ensure that the Breathe London sensors are accurate.

Breathe London is guided by a diverse group of leaders and experts from a range of organizations. Representation spans academia, NGOs, and medical professionals, with a focus on environmental, public health, and children’s issues.
Its goal is to ensure Breathe London is effectively designed and delivered so that it can best advance current and planned air quality improvement policies and programs in London; and to provide strong coordination with other air quality initiatives occurring across London and throughout the UK.
