Government announces domestic burning consultation

22/01/26

On Clean Air Night the government announced that they’ve opened a UK-wide public consultation on solid fuel burning. This is a rare opportunity for those of us concerned about the health impacts of air pollution from wood burning, to have our say on the future government policies for wood burners and solid fuel stoves.

The government has outlined a number of proposed measures to tighten pollution standards for wood‑burning stoves and better inform people of the health impacts of domestic burning. These proposals reflect growing recognition of the role that solid fuel burning plays in contributing to local air pollution. The consultation provides an opportunity for individuals and organisations to share their views on how domestic burning could be better managed to support cleaner air and healthier communities.

The consultation is open until 19th March 2026.
